Last week the Disruptors attended events for International Women’s Day and we were excited by the opportunities to support women in leadership, and delighted in the news that a company like Energy Australia has decided to enact equal pay across its employee base, all at once.
But as encouraging as that news may be, it still is concerning that so many organisations regard women as less valuable and less likely to be associated with innovation programs.
The research is overwhelmingly in support of women in leadership, showing better performance as companies and women have been shown to be effective creators of innovative products and services. And as the numbers of girls engaging with STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) begins to rise, the opportunities to employ women are likely to rise.
We are doing our bit. Our latest employee - hired this week - is a young woman with a great outlook on the future of communication and innovation. And we hope that the support of women will continue to go far beyond the one day of the year when women become the focus of attention - International Women’s Day. In an era where innovation is critical to business success, it’s vital that women are part of the innovation solution.
