This weekend Disruptor’s Handbook will be hosting the very first Sex Tech hackathon in Australia. Many people have asked us why we are doing this. After a series of hackathons associated with social justice and corporate objectives, why would we turn to something like sex as a subject of our hackathon.
Here’s our response: this IS a social justice hackathon.
In the age of the #metoo movement, the need for women’s voices in expression of what constitutes sexual identity, and how relationships should be experienced is vital. And people with disability or disadvantage should have the right and dignity of expression of sexuality. And for people in relationshps, there needs to be better negotiation of safe, positive sexual experience.
Every adult human is a sexual being. Every one of us is born from sexuality. The taboo of sexuality is something that needs to be overcome in order to ensure that we actually improve the experience of sexuality for everyone.
We believe this hackathon will help seed a sex tech sector in Australia that will drive positive human relationships. And we are proud to be part of it.
