Many of you may be unaware that this weekend there was a fabulously unique event running.
No, not a wedding. A hackathon, and the first of its kind for Asia. As part of the Spark Fest in Singapore, Disruptor Gavin facilitated Asia’s first #sextech hackathon
. With teams flying in from as far as Japan, the event has been groundbreaking in bringing together creative and passionate people wishing to develop new products o help with sex education and fertility as well as improving communication and quality of life for people in relationships.
It is perhaps surprising that a relatively conservative country like Singapore has turned out to be the first Asian nation embracing sextech. But it makes sense, too. As noted in the article in Forbes over the weekend
, sextech is currently a $30 billion industry growing at 30% per year. And Singapore is well-placed to facilitate development of the sector, as a gateway between the east and west. This event is just the first step on a significant opportunity in the region.
